Program Information
Answer: Trinity School of Nursing is currently located on the 8th and 9th floor at Trinity East in Steubenville.
Trinity is a 2 year hospital based Diploma School for Registered Nursing.
A Diploma School of Nursing offers a strong clinical component to Nursing Education and emphasizes correlation between concepts in classroom and clinical. Trinity offers increased clinical/patient contact hours in comparison with an Associates/Baccalaureate program. Graduates from all three types of programs must pass the same licensure exam (NCLEX-RN) to earn the title of Registered Nurse (R.N.) and are eligible for the same types of entry level nursing jobs.
Trinity is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). This accrediting organization was formerly known as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The accreditation process represents quality in education ensuring high levels of opportunity for student learning and student achievement. Choosing a program which has achieved this prestigious accreditation status should be a consideration for prospective applicants.
PreAdmission Information
Students should complete the application process, including taking the TEAS test, by April 1. Applications will continue to be considered after this date, until the class has been filled.
The test can be scheduled by calling 740-283-7455.
As outlined in the Admission Section of this Website, each applicant must satisfactorily complete high school level Algebra I and Chemistry I (or college course equivalents) prior to entering the program.
Yes. There are five non-nursing college courses that are offered as part of the curriculum (Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, General Psychology, Sociology, and Human Development), Although these courses are not pre-admission requirements, students have the option to complete these courses at the college of their choice prior to entrance in the program. Students can then request transfer of credit for these courses. This allows the student to just concentrate on nursing courses while enrolled in Trinity School of Nursing.
Acceptance Into The Program
All accepted applicants must meet all of the required preadmission requirements outlined on this website. Applicants that BEST meet the preadmission requirements will be offered admission to the school first. If you are not offered admission after the initial review of the file, the file will continue to be reviewed for admission consideration until a class has been filled.
Applications for admission are reviewed following receipt of all required transcripts/testing scores. An applicant’s file will not be reviewed until all transcripts/test scores have been received.
Trinity begins a new class once a year every Fall Semester (August).
All accepted applicants have 30 days to submit a registration fee of $100.00. Additional forms and guidance will be included with the acceptance letter. Preadmission packets are mailed to all accepted applicants in June of each year. Mandatory New Student Orientation is scheduled approximately 2 – 3 weeks prior to each Fall Semester’s start date.
Many students work while attending Trinity. Trinity is a very rigorous program. If the need to work exists, working part-time with a flexible schedule is recommended.
Students are classified as part-time if they are taking less than 12 credit hours in a semester/session. This occurs during the summer sessions and during semesters in which students have transferred in credit for the corresponding college course that is offered that semester. However, being classified as part-time does not lessen nor extend the length of the program. It will take students 2 years to complete the program regardless of whether they are full-time or part-time.
Trinity nursing courses are consecutive in sequence and are only offered once per year. Trinity School of Nursing does not currently offer evening classes.

Employment, Licensure, and Continuing Education
In the state of Ohio, a graduate nurse must pass the state licensure exam (NCLEX-RN) prior to working as a R.N. Statistics for recent years indicate that 100% of Trinity’s graduates were employed within one year of graduation. More details can be found in Program Outcomes section of this website.
In 2023, Trinity’s NCLEX-RN pass rate was 100%. Our NCLEX pass rate has been 100% in 5 of the last 7 years. In 2022, Trinity was one of the only two schools in state of Ohio to achieve a 100% pass rate, and was the only local school in the tri-state area to achieve a 100% pass rate. Trinity’s pass rates have consistently exceeded both the National and State rates for more than forty years. Recent pass rates are available in the Program Outcomes section of our website. When choosing which School is right for you, investigate the NCLEX-RN pass rate for the CAMPUS not College/University as a whole that you are interested in attending.
Yes, you can easily continue your education to earn a BSN (Bachelor’s Degree), an MSN (Master’s Degree), a DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice), or a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) in Nursing. You can continue your education to become a Nurse Practitioner or a Nurse Anesthetist. An Associate’s Degree is not necessary for a diploma graduate to pursue a higher degree in Nursing. Additionally, most hospital employers offer some type of tuition reimbursement, so nurses can continue their education at little or no cost.
Testimonials from Graduates
This was a great program. I’ve learned to appreciate the knowledge I have gained in the 24 months I have been in this program. When I work beside a nurse who hasn’t had this experience I’m sure glad I chose Trinity School of Nursing
I love the experiences we get and the clinical time/preceptorship. I don’t know what we would do without it. Our school really promotes professional ethics, values, accountability and everything else that goes along with good, holistic care!
The strength of this program is how the material being taught builds each semester. The process allows the student to build on previous knowledge and be able to apply this knowledge. By having a process like this, I feel that by the end of this program, I am very well prepared to take this knowledge and be a competent nurse.
Throughout the program the staff is always there to provide you with feedback, answer your questions and develop plans to make you the best. You feel close to them, and not just like another person in a 200 person class.
I appreciate the staff’s “open door” policy. If I ever had any issues they were always there to talk about them with me.
The faculty has been incredibly helpful throughout these past 24 months. I don’t think I could ever give enough thanks for how much they’ve done.
It is evident that the faculty care and work endlessly towards helping us to succeed. I have loved everything about Trinity SON – the curriculum, my classmates, etc. It’s the perfect fit for me.
The program has taught me how to be the best nurse I can be, not just how to pass tests.
Coming out of the program I feel very prepared to go into the workforce. The instructors never make you feel like you’re alone and are always there to answer questions or just for moral support.
Faculty is amazing. They are always there to help you succeed.
The program really pushes you to do your best and really prepares you for the NCLEX and your future career in the health care profession. Having clinical experience within the first few weeks of starting the program and the entire two years is a great benefit of the program.
I have recommended this school to anyone who is even slightly interested in Nursing. I love this program.
I am 4 weeks into my orientation on my unit at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. I was thrilled to discover early in orientation that Trinity had more than prepared me to enter the RN workforce. The foundation I was given allowed me to sail through – and pass – more easily than even some of my BSN peers. Since I’ve been on the unit, I have been told many times that the nurses are “impressed” with my knowledge base. I am steps ahead of many of the new RNs from other schools. I cannot thank you enough for the effort you put into preparing me for my life as an RN.
I have successfully completed my orientation process at AGH (busy cardiothoracic surgical floor/telemetry)! As of this week, I am a proficient, entry level RN; I am confident, yet humble. The staff that I work with are impressed by my knowledge and skill level (Thank you, TSON!). I will start training for the SICU (surgical ICU) in about 6 months. My hospital and a University have teamed up for a no out of pocket tuition for RN-to-BSN program and I will be starting in January! It is my first step to move up the clinical ladder here. I am so happy that I chose Trinity for my schooling! So thankful for all of you!
I chose TSON for the NCLEX pass rate and the clinical experience but there’s so much more this school has to offer – it doesn’t get much better. Thank you to my instructors who have been patient, caring, and absolutely amazing since day one.
